SET UP YOUR MEMORIALS
Welcome to the first article in a series of short articles I am writing specifically for our men. Anyone, man or woman, are welcome to read them, but the application will be specifically to our men. The series will be called the “Men’s Monday Minute” and for the next several weeks through the summer will be released regularly on Mondays. My hope and prayer is that you will find them to be an encouragement.
“That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.” - Joshua 4:6-7
When the children of Israel crossed the Jordan river they left behind a pile of stones as a memorial for what the Lord had done for them in helping them cross. It would serve as a testimony, not of men’s strength, but of the power of God.
Our nation has set aside a day today, Memorial Day, to memorialize the sacrifices that have been made by our brave soldiers who have given their lives in defense of their country. The freedoms that have been gifted to us at the cost of their lives should well be remembered, and memorialized. We as American citizens should not soon forget the cost of freedom. This yearly reminder has been kept alive now for several generations, and I believe it should continue.
Yet, as children of God, we should also memorialize God’s gifts of goodness to us so that our children may see the working of God in our lives and know that He also will be there for them in their time of need. Let’s tell our children about what God has done. Leave the memorial of God’s goodness for the sake of their future.
